What's your role and professional background?
I am currently working as a Support Coordinator, but I am a Social Worker by trade. I studied a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) at The University of Newcastle. I also have four years of experience as a Disability Support Worker, providing in-home and community-based support to individuals with a range of disabilities. I am new to my role as a Support Coordinator, but I am excited to see where my professional journey takes me.
Outside of work, what are your interests?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my Golden Retriever. On the weekends, you will usually find me in our hammock, curled up with a good book. I also enjoy art and craft, and I would consider myself to be a creative person. I enjoy listening to music, a good cup of coffee, browsing op-shops, and going to art galleries.
What do you think sets Support Collective apart in providing quality supports to our participants?
I think what makes Support Collective different is the fact that support coordination is the only service offered. This ensures that participants have complete choice and control over which service providers they use. Participants of Support Collective should feel confident knowing that their Support Coordinator represents them and their best interests.
What's a fun fact about you that people might not know?
A fun fact about me is that I am Neurodivergent. I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD while I was at university. My lived experience allows me to relate to the participants that I support and gain a better understanding of their potential strengths and challenges.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I find it rewarding to know that I’m making a positive difference in other people’s lives. I’m passionate about supporting participants with psychosocial, intellectual, neurological, and developmental disabilities. I enjoy working with children and young people, but I find it equally rewarding to support adults as well. I enjoy complex problem solving, crisis management, completing psychosocial assessments, and linking participants to appropriate support and services. I enjoy the variety that my role brings, and I love that no two days are exactly the same.
